After refusing to join clubs of any type all my life, I ended up
joining this club. What was the difference?

The people, the attitude and the freedom to be.

I had a short conversation with a guy recently who is part of another
car club (Not Amphicar). He was very critical of any car that wasn't
his. Nitpicking other people's restorations, and basic self-
righteous, pretentious attitude. I was not impressed by him at all.
It only made me appreciate what we have here as unique in the
motoring world. It is not just cars. I know many other motorcycle
people around the world, most are cool, but some are very brand-
phobic. I like bikes of all kinds, my preferance is my HD. So no bike
club for me either.

In spite of the rare spats and misunderstandings that any group of
people is bound to experience, we love the Amphicar in all the
various incarnations and conditions. Nobody cares if you have a $50k
Gordon's resto or a Brown Wonder (still one of my favorite Amphis).
Each one is loved for what it is .... FUN! We have people who have
little money to work with doing the labor and we have millionaires
who have it done too, yet everybody is equal in Amphi's eyes.

I only hope that Hans realized that what he envisioned as an everyday
car has turned out to be an Ambassador of Laughter, fun and healing.

I went to my favorite lake Saturday eve at about 5PM cuz I was bored
and depressed about some recent events. I went up there alone and
before I knew it, I was surrounded again with the obligatory 20
questions which I still gladly answer for the 5000th time. I gave at
least 30 people rides and made several BIG entries (I turned down
about $100 in offerings). Once again I was invited to have a burger
and cocktail at their campsite. We had a great time, I met a bunch of
new friends and went home not so bored, smiling, and enjoying the top
down under the big Mars in the sky at 1 AM.

I thank you Hans for forever changing my life in way that just can
not be described in mere words.

Dittos, John,
Our Amphicar has become part of our family, like a favorite pet. Our
other vehicles cannot compare or give us anywhere near the same
enjoyment. The folks we meet and speak with in our club are the most
interesting vehicle related friends we have. Like John
says, "Amphicar people don't care what you do" and I'll add they all
appreciate a good story or two, unlike some (not all) of our other
group friends that think the more $$$$$$$ you have the better you are.
