The Trim From Hell

Hello John and other Amphibians,

I have the trim off my white car while it's being painted. I thought
I'd look into having some minor scrapes and dings polished out. I
took it to a local polishing a plating place. They say there's
nothing they can do for them other than a light polish since, they
believe, that the trim is actually chrome plated aluminum and any
grinding and sanding will go right through the chrome and they have no
way to replate it. This chroming of aluminum is a process that's new
to me but, in prowling around the web, I found references that implied
that the process has been around for 50 years. Has anyone looked into
finding someone who can grind out the scratches and replate these
pieces? I already checked with Hugh and he's out of most of the trim
again.

John,

Your timing is perfect! Just yesterday I dropped off all my trim to
be polished and nicks removed. They are a retired couple who have
been doing bumper/trip repair for 40 years. If you want to wait until
I get my stuff back (about 3 or 4 weeks) too see how it comes out,
I'll send you pics. Feel free to ping me off-line too. He had no
problem with the aluminum trim. He said it will look like new when
he's done.
