The black wire

I'm trying to identify the black wire that is in the same wire bundle as
the gray wire that goes to position 5 on the fuse block.

The black wire was originally attached at position 4. I've disconnected
with no apparent ill effect. When it's attached, the generator light
stays on and the temperature gauge pegs.

I can't find this wire in any of my reference sources. Any help is
appreciated.

Thanks,

Randy

Randy,
According to my schematic, only the grey wire should attach to the #5 fuse.
There is a black wire that should attach to the #4 fuse - it is for the magneto
shut-off valve.
Does your fuse block have a copper bridge between fuse #2 & #3, or between #3
& #4? The answer to that might make a difference here.

Jim,

On close study of the schematic I have, the "-" pole of the gas gauge
has three wire running to it, one bringing juice from the ignition
switch. They apparently changed the routing and bring in juice from
position 4 on the fuse box. Thanks for your help.
