Ref: Power brake booster.
Hello John.
On some of the Triumph Heralds there was a vacuum power brake unit installed
as an option, also together with 1197 engines.
The unit was mounted separately from the master-cylinder and it was a very
"neat" unit.
I don't know if the Herald was sold in the US, if not there are probably
some other British oldies that had the same unit.
Best regards

I believe that it fits late 70s vintage International. The master I
am using is for a clutch and not the brakes.

The problems that I need to contend with are the physical size of the
can (booster) and the vacuum needed to operate it (large can, more
vacuum). I will use an accumulator to store vacuum, but as you know,
room is a concern.

I am hopeing that the 1147 engine will be able to provide enough
vacuum along with the accumulator to make my evil plan work. Mooo bwa
ha ha ha!! ;)

Hello Cap'n
I just digged out my old Triumph Herald power unit from a shelf. The unit
has a diameter of approx 20cm x 10cm, + the hydraulic cylinder is which is
mounted direct on the centershaft. There are three mounting screws located
on the hydraulic cylinder. Would this size be O.K. for you? I think you
should be able to fit it inside one of the front wings. in this case you can
use the vacuum-tube from the engine as an extra reservoir. Perhaps even a
rear mounting in the engine-room or under the backseat, with an extra long
brakepipe going back to the front brakes, is possible.
Do you want me to mail you picturers of the unit?
Best regards
Bo the Swede
