Good one. Reminds me of a ride my 3 year old daughter and I took with my Dad
in the Niagara River is '77.
As we entered the water all that could be heard was...
"Cars don't go in water..Boats Do!!!!!!! "

As the son of a prior Amphi Owner I really enjoys your posts..
RODWICK1@AOL.COM
Give blood every 8 weeks. It only hurts when you don't..... I'm told that
less than 1% of the population gives.
It's up to us.

OK - I'll bite! I sank one in 1979 in the outlet of Onondaga Lake in
Syracuse, NY. I retrieved it the same day with the help of several friends,
many feet of tow chain, and two large 4WD tow trucks. Another one sank in or
around 1965, farther down the river between Liverpool and Baldwinsville, NY,
on a test drive, when the lady passenger freaked out, she was afraid of
sinking, and opened the door to get out! A very good reason to handcuff your
"new" passengers before entering the water! Gary.

Re: Re: summer

Erik - They did recover the car, it went down right off the launch ramp at a
small marina in the area where boats were docked, so it was shallow. I have
no idea about insurance coverage, the car belonged to Frances Oley, the
local Amphicar dealer, at the time. Gary.

Does anyone know how I would go about finding all the places where amphis
have sunk?

Hmm, could there be a new path to Amphi ownership; a chapter on salvage law and
a set of tanks and mask?

Your overall theory is correct, however my end goal is not an amphi,
but adventure.
Can you help me?

My first answer would be "At the bottom" ;)

Go to http://www.amphicar.net/minnow/Sunk.htm and check out this
story about one I have been dealing with. It is currently in
restoration. Probably the best sunen Amphi story I know of. We have
a member who just had one sink in 77' a couple of months ago.

This is such a cool story. I would have loved to have been there when
they pulled it out. Any updates since then?

I agree, but before I go to the library, does anyone know where an
amphi or multiple amphis sank that were never recovered, preferably
in Ohio, michigan, indiana, Kentucky, West virginia, Pennsylvania,
or NY?

(I don't know if my library will cover different states.)

RE: Re: summer

hello
most all libarys have computers now, And most of them have old news papers
already in there hard drive. So you might be able to referance the computer
with any amphibious vehicle that sank in the waters of ???. or they might
let you go from year to year? and just go througt the listings..
Looking for anything under the water is a lot of work and takes alot of
research and time.
Again Good Luck Paul

The last time I spoke with the owner, the car was in the middle of a
nut/bolt resto in Florida. Expected to be completed 2005 sometime. I
hope to speak with him soon.

A thorough search of electronic newspaper records has revealed many
interesting things; sunken ships from the war of 1812 preserved
perfectly by great lakes cold water, sailors survive in a life raft
by using their fingers to plug the holes, the cuyohoga river fire
clears way for new life. But there was nothing on sank amphis,
there are two possibilities: Sunken amphis don't make the papers, or
I am searching with the wrong words/criteria.
