SU Carbs

My car is running like $hit. I found out this afternoon that in spite
of paying for them to be rebuilt, they were not. I am hoping that
somebody knows these carbs well enough to maybe see if they can adjust
them so my car will run better for now.

I can fix most anything EXCEPT for carbs. The SU carbs are new to me
so I am not experienced with them yet. We are leaving in the AM! WOO
HOO!!!

<font size="2">Cap'n John: In case it helps, that Solex "Selection and Tuning of the Carburetor" manual that's linked on the Club's website at http://www.amphicar.com/restoration.htm(the direct link to which nowadays appears to bedead in the water) can nevertheless still be found in an "archived" state from 2003 thanks to the "Internet Wayback Machine" at http://web.archive.org/web/20031210210739/http://wow.atlasta.net/~mriluvu/oacdp/solex.html. While one cannot download the whole thing as a PDF in its entirety from there anymore (that link's a goner), the handy page-by-page links and images are still active, so you cangetjust the pages you need to rebuild or adjust your carb, even on the road.</font>
<font size="2"></font>
<font size="2">If you or anyone else wantsthe whole whomping-big 15 Megabyte-sized manual in PDF format, I've made my own copy of it(temporarily) available on the Amphicar.net webserver at http://www.amphicar.net/models/solexcarb.pdf. In view of its size, it's likely I'll remove it after not too long, sofolks should probablynot link to it unless they're compiling the world's most comprehensive "Dead Links" webpage...</font>

John, SU's are fantastic when they are set up correctly. Which engine/carb setup are you using? Do you have to experiment with needles? Also make sure you don't have any intake manifold vacuum leaks. Jim

Sigh, wish I was hangin' out in Celina, too. Want to hear more about fuel injection. Who's doing that? Beat me to the injection and disc brakes idea. Got the ideas but no formal engineering. Gota lot more ideas. Missing the brain.

You guys have a great time.

Glenn, who hates carbs and drum brakes and lost his virginity 2 weeks ago after begging for 3 years to go for a swim in Oregon and wanted to sell his Albatross a year ago and is happy he didn't and says too bad to anybody that thumbed their noses atmy carlast year when it was for salecheap and nowcan't findan Amphi to buynow Boo Hoo too bad and be ready to write a big check for a bucket of rustyparts, Bell, who is getting his tackle and fishing license together this weekend.
