Solex Carburetor

I just received my new Solex 30PSEI Carburetor from this ebay seller:
TRIUMPH HERALD NEW SOLEX 30PSEI CARBURETTOR - eBay (item 150343588271 end time Jun-29-10 07:58:36 PDT)
and installed it and what a difference it makes in how my Amphicar runs! The price is about half of a US supplier and he still has more than 10 available so if you're thinking about getting one stop procrastinating.
You need to take part#1-7-9 from your old carb and slightly modify 1-7-25 to accept the choke cable and then it's a perfect fit.

I bought that carburetor some time ago for spares. It fits on the engine, but it is a complete different construction. The venturi is much smaller as original Amphicar, the jets have different diameters, the floating chamber is ventilated from outside and the enrichment system is very different. It seems originally constructed for the 1000ccm engine.

You should have an eye on the engine not running too lean, which causes big problems

What is the number of the carb that came on the Amphicar?
Mine had a Solex 30PSEI which is the same as the new carb I installed.
Here are the specs: Solex Carburetor Specifications - Ford
Here is the carb that came on the Triumph Herald:
Triumph Herald Coupé 1960-64 classic car portrait print
and I understood that Amphicar used the same Carb as the engine is Triumph Herald.
The new one may be constructed slightly different to improve performance but the specs are the same are they not?

You are right, but the carb i received has a venturi diameter of 17 mm, the original amphicar and herald have 22 mm, that is 40% less area. If you are looking in the carb from above, the venturi is the smallest airflow diameter between strangler (choke) and throttle. If you have a close look you will see a number at the edge of the venturi.
Maybe he sent me the wrong carb.
