shifting question

Hi all, I have a shifting question. After installing one of Hugh's rebuilt
transmissions it does not want to shift into first gear so good. All the
others are good but if you want to get it first you really have to put in
gear and it some times comes out of first gear. I think it is in the linkage
not the transmission. Any advice? Thanks in advance Tommy in Tampa

Make sure car is on jack stands and supported well. Have someone shift the
car in each gear while you check the linkage travel in each gear.
That should take care of it. gl
