Got them back from the laminator, they came out better than I thought
they would. So there are a few of you who should look for them to
show up next week sometime.
I have painted steering wheels before, just used a good quality epoxy
paint and your good to go. they should hold up just fine. That is how
the pros do it as well. If you are concerned, get a wheel cover of
some sort for protection.
