Replacing Wheel bearings

My new rear wheel bearings should be arriving soon. Am I better off
bringing my swing axle to a machine shop to extract the old bearings and
insert the new ones or is this something that will give me great
satisfaction by doing it in the privacy of my own garage.

I just replaced both sets of bearings in our right rear wheel
assembly and did it in our garage with minimal tools. The only thing
I rented was a hub puller. The old bearings should not be too hard
to knock out, in fact one of mine just fell out. I would think you
would be able to do a good job at home and you will know what is
going back in. You will also be able to use Amsoil grease to pack
the bearings to the max as they go back together. Did you order the
inner and outer seals too?

Easy enough to do at home once you get the hub off. Also, after you have
the hub off, remember there are snap rings to release inside the hub that
hold the large bearing in place.

Excellent. Didn't know about the snap rings. Thanks much.
