Recommended Amphi Improvements

So I'm sitting here, in air-conditioned comfort, watching as the temperature
heads for maybe 110F (it hit 108F yesterday in El Cajon), and my mind drifts to
the list of fixes that I plan for my Amphi.

I looked at our club site, but didn't really find an area that addresses
"improvements". <g> What I'm talking about are those modification projects that
range from vital to sort of nice; stuff that will improve safety, ease future
work or ensure longer life (Amphi, not necessarily me). Maybe not necessarily a
project all by itself, but something that's a "good thing to do" while you work
on some associated area.

We have recently been talking about the steering box stiffener brace, and a few
months ago, we talked about adding Zerk fittings (grease nipples). Certainly the
12VDC negative ground conversion has already been covered. Another area might be
the fuel tank, with its bottom-mounted fuel outlet and cutoff valve. (I just
don't like the safety aspects of that design.) Alternator and electronic
ignition conversions have also received some discussion.

Maybe we could set up some kind of "guru-approved & peer-reviewed Amphi
modifications" section on our club site.

=============

Ed, et al.:

Most such non-original improvement tips will find their way onto the Club
website site as links in the "Restoration" page of the Club website at
http://www.amphicar.com/restoration.htm . Examples of some non-original
improvements found there are links for information about "Alternator
Conversions", "Adding an Automatic Backup Bilge Pump", "Adding an Hour
Meter" and so on. Also, since this very Amphicar-Lovers List that we're
reading is clearly the preeminent venue for Amphicar tech info, there's also
a link that'll get you to this List's Archives' "Power Search" as well as
several preset searches on popular topics.

If anyone's already got a webpage out there about any repair, retrofit
improvement or other any Amphicar technical topic that isn't mentioned at
http://www.amphicar.com/restoration.htm , or if you'd care to cobble
something together about such a topic, like "Steering Braces", for example,
just drop me a line off-list.
