Rebuilt transmission installed

Last spring I bought a basket full of transmission parts. At Celina I bought a
complete transmission but it was ruined from being store full of water.
Well, last weekend I installed the final mixture of the two.
This tranny was rebuilt using all off the shelf bearings and seals except for
one bearing I replaced with a brass bushing. I did not replace the needle
bearings that the gears ride on or the the needle bearings in the water tranny.
The only common wear parts that I had to order were synchos and the double lip
seal. I even made my own gaskets using the old ones as templates. The total cost
of the whole project including the purchase of the original transmissions, right
at $1,000.
Now the world has one more amphicar transmission available.
If anyone has any partial or bad transmissions that they would like to part
with, please let me know.

Scott Moses..

P.S. I video taped the whole process so hopefully there will be a how to tape
and CD soon.

Scott,
I'll be replacing the seal between the land and water trannies this
winter. Do you think I could substitute a metal gasket (using aluminum
flashing)? I'd bet it be pretty easy to form one. Should be a lot more
durable.

Way to go Scott! Our latest transmission expert. It's very gratifying to put a
bunch of parts back together and get a functioning Amphicar transmission. It
would be a great educational tool if you could produce an edited movie on the
inner workings and rebuilding of our transmissions. Congratulations.
