John,
I've heard Hugh's advice about listening for the "pop" when greasing up
the rear bearings. I have never been able to hear anything. Either my
rear bearings are dangerously bare, or my brake surfaces are covered with
grease. Either way sounds bad. If one of those bearings ever fails, I'm
turning the seal around.

p.s. I have the transmission back and installed in my white Amphi. I can't
believe, it but all is working. The transmission is so quiet now, that I
can ride without earplugs.
