Rear Drive Shafts Resting on Tunnel

Hi-

I pulled the engine and the trans. Pulled the drive (half) shafts intact
with the oscillating arms. Put them back, but with the car raised and the
shocks (new from Gordon) installed, the shaft rests on the bottom of the
tunnel and won't turn. I don't remember the shafts being this low before.
What have I done wrong?

Either the trans is sitting lower, or the shock extended length is longer, or
both.

I know it sounds obvious, but did you put the trans mounts back, or are the
metal flanges of the water transmission sitting on the steel mount brackets?

Then, measure the extended length of the old shock and the new shock. With the
Amphi jacked, the wheel is hanging down as far as the shock will allow (the
extended length.) And this length should be reached before the axle binds
against the tube.

Steve,

Under NO circumstances should those shafts touch the tunnels. If they
did, serious damage would occur to the tunnels as you enter and leave
the water. I would check the extended length of the original shocks
and compare that to the new ones. If the new ones are longer, call
Hugh about the problem. I replaced all 4 shocks with Alden shocks
from Hugh last summer. The lengths were right and the car drives fine.
