Rear brake cable mount on backing plate

Can anyone tell me how they were able to fit new parking brake cables through the plastic mounting piece that fits on the backing plate ?

The new cables have a screw type clevis that you take off, run the threaded part through the frame tube in the bilge behind the seat, through the rubber boot (don't forget the split plastic seal in the boot) and out to the rear, then to the white piece and then re-attach.
