Rear axle Woodruff keys

Greetings,

In the ebay Amphicar just mentioned, the seller candidly offered a few caveats
of Amphicar ownership. He mentioned being careful
while exiting the water with the drive wheels engaged at full, or near full
throttle, so as to not shear the drive axle Woodruff
keys when the tires contact the ramp.

I don't think I've ever used full throttle to exit but has anyone ever
experienced a sheared pin?

I've never heard of that happening but I guess it could if the hub nut was
loose. I did once forget to put that pin (or key) in and I couldn't work out
why the car would start, run and change gear - I even went up through the
gears - all the time with the drive shaft spinning away in the hub and just
Amsoil lubrication stopping it from welding together !
