All the conversation about this earlier, and I forgot to throw in what
Hugh told me. Home Depot has 4 inch by 6 inch heavy rubber plumbing
fittings for about 5 bucks each that work perfectly. At this price you
can replace them once a year!

Just a bit of a follow-up on those plumbing fixtures at Home Depot. I almost
live there, and I never noticed those fittings. What subsection of Plumbing do
they hide them in? Maybe large PVC or irrigation pipe sections?

Thanks,

I am working on a local Amphi finishing up the project. Top, bearings
and lots of misc. One axel boot was peeled off the tunnel and the
clamp was only holding it about half way around. Had the boot not
been "stuck" to the tunnel, it could have been disasterous! I could
get 4 fingers between the boot and tunnel. No way could the pump keep
up with this size of a leak.

To avoid this when installing original type axle boots. Get the boot
on the tranny and tunnel, checking ALL THE WAY AROUND to be sure it
is on properly. Then install the clamp without the screw, placing it
around the boot lips BEFORE installing the screw. NEVER try to start
the screw and slide the clamp over the boot as you can peel the boot
edge back without realizing it and not have a good seal. This will
ensure that your clamps are on all the way around the boot.

The 4" fitting from Home Depot are on the Georgia car, they seem to
work fine. As thick as they are, it looks like they were a PITA to
install. I don't know myself as I have never installed these types.
