Rear Axle Rubber Boot

Mark:
Gordon does have the boots as a separate item. There were quite a few
different types of axle shafts and different boot sizes. If you have the
most common type of shaft Hugh has a boot which will work. You need to
clamp it around the skinny part of the axle at one end, pull it tight, trim
the excess and grind down the clamp end. This is what Hugh does if you buy
his economy shafts. These shafts are good but they all need new boots
installed. Amphicar tried some type of clear boot on them which sort of
rotted away over time.

I have searched this archive and looked at the parts listed in the
replacement list on amphicar.net and can find no mention of a
replacement rubber boot for the rear axle. I have used the part from
the old universal list which was exhaust garage hose that shops use
to run the cars indoors and pipe the fumes out through this flexible
rubber hose. It was a bit too large and stiff and has now torn open.
I remember one posting about a motorcycle bellows for the front fork,
or something like that which worked. I do not know if Gordons has
these as a seperate part, or not. Does anyone know of either original
ones, or suitable replacements being available? This would be a good
candidate for the list of reproduction, as it is rubber and has a
relatively short life as it is subjected to a harsh enviornment. I
guess I need some as the duct tape will not fit into the tunnel.
Thanks, Mark Richardson (enjoying the latest newsletter)

replacement for the REAR AXLE BOOT. The diameter is slightly larger, but it
clamps down fine.[...]"

Hi Bill,
Hugh has a paragraph about his replacement boots in his price
sheet. It's in the middle of the area where the prop shafts are.
