Is there some secret to removing Amphicar ball joints, in particular, the
outer joints? Over the past week I have severely deformed my ball joint
splitter trying to get them to release. I've tried heat and now I'm
trying PB, some type of super juice. No luck. I hope it's something
embarassingly simple.

Thanks,

Amphicars do not have ball joints!!!!they have king pins
If you are talking about tie rod ends there is a special tool that looks
like a tunning fork
to remove them but it also destoys the rubber seals.
an old mechanic secret to remove without the tool is to hit the metal that
the bolt goes threw with a large(large!)hammer a very solid blast.best when
in car and all attached.
do not,,,hit the tie rod end,
if you get the right hit, vibration will drop the end out.

Thanks for the advice Gordon and Ken. And yes, they are tie rod ends. In
my frustration I actually sawed off the tie rod shaft that goes into the
steering arm. This allowed me to remove the front end completely. I
actually tried whacking the steering arm while I pried on it, but I was
more afraid of damaging it than getting the tie rod ends to pop free. The
shell is going to the sandblaster in a couple of weeks and directly to
the body shop/paint shop from there. Needed to get everything off. I will
have turned a major corner because when I get it back, I can start
putting it back together!!! In the meantime, I'll have to take the front
end assemblies to a machine shop and have them press out what remains of
the shaft.
