Put-in-Bay

Howdy all,

There are several of us who would like to do a
mini-event before or after the swim-in next summer.
There is an island in Lake Erie, near to Sandusky,
called South Bass Island. The town on the island is
called Put-in-bay. It is a very, very, very cool
place. I liken it to somewhere between Lake George
and Woodstock in atmosphere.

If you like to party, this town has it all. Also, the
police are very nice. We actually had fun with them
last summer while giving rides. The Coast Guard there
was also fun. In just a couple of days, during the
middle of the week, Billy made about $400! Simply by
putting a cup on the dashboard.

For those who are not ready to "swim" amphi over the
couple of miles of Lake Erie to the island, there is a
Ferry. As long as you have reservations on the
island, they will take your vehicle over. We crossed
on a fairly calm day. We did get a little wet and, in
the middle the waves came from every imaginable
direction, but it was easily crossable. On a windy
day, take the Ferry!

I know Chris Skeeles mentioned he wanted to do it.
Billy mentioned talking to a couple of people about it
and they were willing to give it a go. Also, a couple
of club members have houses there. Maybe they'd be
willing to comment on the town (if they're on this
list). This town is tons of fun and anyone going will
have an absolute blast! We know a hotel owner who
will help us get good rates anywhere on the island,
especially if it's not over a weekend.

Let's generate some interest here!!!!

Peace, Randy

Looks like "Thunderbirds are go" on the post-Celina gathering at Put-in-Bay
on Bass Island. One can see its listing in the the Club's Events Calendar
at http://www.amphicar.com/calendar.htm#bassisland

I was just thinking about that. Billy Syx of East Coast Amphicar is the
organizer, assuming he's throwing another bash up there again this year.
Why not give him a ring? (he doesn't do email) His phone number and other
contact info's at the East Coast Amphicar website at

Put-in-Bay is informally scheduled for immediately after Celina, so the
Chicago river run could be scheduled for the following weekend. John, can
you stay an extra week so that the river run could be the next weekend after
Celina? Or maybe a stop in Put-in-Bay (I know that it is in the wrong
direction).

As much as I would like to stay longer, I don't have the resources
to cover the costs of a weeks stay. I also have a niece's wedding to
attend and photograph the next weekend. If I miss that, it would be
my funeral instead! ;)

I would love to do the Chicago river, but it is 1000+ miles from
here.
