poll: original bilge pump mounting & depth gauge

1) bilge pump is a little prettier and more interesting with the hoses at the top - does the impeller get SO much more dried out with 5" more water height inverting it to this (in my opinion) nicer looking orientation?

2) what kind of depth gauge,
...and were to mount it...and the transducer?

I agree, having the port at the top looks better and allows for an easier job of putting some lubricant into the pump housing, BUT every inch of additional height makes it harder for the pump to pull it's initial prime and if you get it wrong you will burn out the impeller and melt the nylon pump housing.
