"Peanuts! Get your peanuts!"
"I'll take a bag of peanuts."
"Well, I don't actually have peanuts...How about some nice sardines?"
"I want peanuts, not friggin' sardines"
"Well, I ain't got any. All I got are sardines...They make nice
sandwiches!"
"Why the Hell are you shouting about peanuts if you don't have any?"
"Well many people who eat peanuts also enjoy sardines."
"Stuff your sardines, you time wasting boob."
The above situation may be familiar to any Amphicar owner who's done a
'title & description' search lately in eBay for "Amphicar". Currently of 39
items purporting to be Amphicar-related, only 9 items actually are. What
are the rest, you ask? Well it's a parade of mooks flogging everything from
wine glasses to wheels that wouldn't fit an Amphicar if you used a sawz-all
and a heavy sledge. They just lob "amphicar" somewhere into the auction
text as part of a general automotive come-on like the fish merchant above.
It's a shabby sub-species of made-you-look bait-n-switch spam, and it's only
getting worse. Let these time wasters know that you will not do business
with them if they persist in peddling irrelevencies. If you see an auction
that pops up after a search of "Amphicar" that has no worldly business
popping up, contact the seller and tell them as much. And if you're just
tired of seeing the mooks at all, then please feel free to visit and
bookmark http://www.amphicar.net/amphipoda/ebaydirect.html for a full-blown
worldwide search for bona fide Amphicar items that filters out most such
time wasters. For ready reference, a link to this search page can also be
found at the top of the Club's revamped Classifieds page under the "Tips for
Prospective Webtoed Motorists" section.
