Seeing Sights Slowly

A tour for 1&2 cylinder, steam, electric, and pre-09 4 cylinder cars

HCCA Southern Ontario and AACA Snappers

Orillia, Ontario

June 22 to 25, 2023

Hello, Everyone

If you have a one or two cylinder, steam, or electric car built prior to 1916, or a pre-1909 four cylinder car, you are invited to participate in three days of touring on the quiet roads around Orillia, Ontario, Canada. Daily routes will each be less than 60 miles in terrain that suits early cars well, easy running with the occasional low gear hill. Roads are paved, but we may ask you to brave a very short stretch of gravel once or twice.

Plan to arrive after 3.00pm on Thursday, June 22 and in time for an informal evening supper. Bright and early on Friday morning, we’ll head south on rural paved roads, often under a canopy of trees. Midway there will be a roadside stop for a locally made treat and cold drink before continuing on to our lunch stop at a senior’s residence on the north edge of Barrie. We’ll be guests at a barbecue lunch while the residents enjoy looking at our cars. Our return trip will take us along the shores of Lake Simcoe with a stop for ice cream, of course. Supper will be on your own.

Saturday’s tour will take us west to Coldwater, and once again, there’ll be a mid-morning treat and cold drink. Lunch will be on your own in the village, then we’ll spend an hour or so with the cars on display at a local museum. Our visit is going to be publicized, so it will give us a good opportunity to introduce the public to our wonderful hobby. On the way home, well heck, what would a day of old car touring be without an ice cream stop? In the evening, you can either drive your antique or go modern to the lakeside home of John and Susan Smith for an informal barbecue supper.

Sunday will find us heading north into the edge of the Canadian shield with its rocky terrain. Yes, you guessed it: another treat and drink midway, then it’s on to a picnic pavilion at the top end of scenic Lake Couchiching where we’ll enjoy a tasty sandwich lunch. We’re going to change the afternoon routine a bit, though, and ply you with a slice or two of home-made pie when we get back to the hotel. This will be our shortest day of touring and some may want to head home, although be advised that southbound Sunday evening traffic on the major routes can be frustrating! For those who choose to stay overnight, we can arrange a reservation at a nearby restaurant.

So we hope that you’ll plan to come to Orillia for a chance to drive your early car on a tour designed with it in mind. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you need further information.

Hi Gord
I would love to come, but quite a distance for me. Also I lost a hubcap in the lake or road! Would you have one less expensive than Gordon Import? I’ll be in Celina.
