Seattle area Swimmers,
Opening Day for the Seattle boating season is Saturday May 3rd.
It's time to be sure that your Amphicar is ready! This is the first
year that mine has been in swimming condition for opening day and I
am looking forward to it. Yesterday I took the cover off and went
thru the startup procedure. The usual problems that exist after a
boat has been parked all winter were there. First, a new battery.
Second, no spark. I replaced the battery and installed the Petronix
electronic ignition that has been sitting on my workbench since last
summer. After that, it started right up. The electronic ignition is
amazing. As others before me have stated it now fires up instantly
and seems to run much better. I strongly reccommend it. Opening day
is the best publicity chance the Amphicars in Seattle area get for a
swim-in so lets get together. I own a Texaco station in Bellevue and
am offering the use of my shop for De-winterizing and/or pre-opening
day maintence. I have a fully equipped shop and want to share with
other owners so that we can have a fun day without mechanical
difficulties. The day I have set aside for this is Saturday April
19th,starting at 8am. This gives you two weeks to get you parts and
be ready. Please contact me at 425-746-1244 or e-mail at

Thanks for the offer, that's terrific!

For those who are not aware, the Seattle Yacht Club is
taking registrations over the internet this year:

www.seattleyachtclub.org we are "spirit class"

Roger StJohn has offered to pick up the registration
numbers for all of the Amphicar participants (these
are required for access to the staging area). Several
of us (4 so far) plan to meet about 10:30am on
Saturday, May 3 in the Gasworks Park parking lot, swap
some stories & mount the numbers, then launch en-masse
about 11:15 or so at the public launch. Typically
there is a couple of hours cruising around Lake Union
among the houseboats and several hundred other
participants (stopping traffic coming off the 520
floating bridge); the dash through the Montlake Cut;
some more cruising off of Husky Stadium in Lake
Washington while the parade ends; then the trip back.
Gathering at Dick's or a local land-locked watering
hole afterwards is optional.

Kirkland is also having an "Opening Day" weekend on
May 3 & 4. Rick Seim would like more Amphicars there
too. How about 2pm Sunday?
