Three years ago I heard of an elusive Amphi nearby. I drove around
the area many times looking in back yards and asking around all to no
avail. Then a few weeks ago my nephew handed me a flyer for an
auction. Lookie there!! There is the car I was looking for.

Saturday I head up there and scoped it out. Only one bidder was
against me. He made a couple of bids and then relenquished in his
bids. Now I own 4 Amphicars, one of each color! OK, 2 are organ
donors, but Amphicars none the less.

The newest one is a Regatta red car, needs a top, an axel boot and
brake work. I believe that I could get this car to float with a
little effort. She runs and drives OK. It was apparently an
advertising car from "Butler's Supper Club" in Mapleton, Il. Does
this place still exist? I have posted a pic in the "Photos" section.

<font face="Arial" size="2">Butler's Supper Club is still there alright, not far Peoria and just down the road fromthe Mackinaw River. This areawas reportedly a favored haunt ofBigfoot throughout the 70s (see http://www.n2.net/prey/bigfoot/sbs/pekin.html), so you'll probably want to have a good long look at that rather hirsuite busboy sporting those size 19 EEE Air Jordans.

Bill,

I just spoke with a guy at Butler's and he remembered that exact car
in the early 70s! Mr. Butler passed on 3 years ago. The guy there
(who's name was John Lovins, how ironic is that?) said he would see
if he could locate any vintage pics of it. Now that would be cool! He
also said that the present owners (for about 30 years) are not real
personable so speaking with them may be of little value.
