John:
I have two collections that I would like to contribute.
The first is a set of txt files, organized into a folder I call "Discussion". It
consists of snippets of emails discussing various parts and service
issues.Attached is an example. These files are always in progress; I'll add to a
file if I see something worth remembering. The files are now a total of 2.4 MB.
The second is a set of pictures, jpeg's & gif's mostly, stolen from everywhere,
which show views of various parts (a pinion gear, the front springs and shocks,
engine head). Sometimes a color photo helps you visualize much better than the
line drawings in the parts manual. This file collection is about 270 pictures,
and, even zipped, is around 16 MB.
If you want these, either an ftp is best, or maybe I'll just burn a CD and send
it to you. Let me know.

Subject: [amphicar-lovers] On-line Maint manual
I am rebuilding the on-line manuals in the "Member's Only" page so
they work and look better. Fixing the graphics, new scans that are
missing etc.
While I am in the construction stage, are there any suggestions for
me? Anything will be appreciated, good or bad. I expect this to
involve lots of hours to complete over the winter months, if I have
your suggestions soon, it will be easier to incorporate them now.
I am looking into adding an electrical section, but that is only
after I get everything else done 1st. Once my new "Minnow" page is
done (about 95% so far) Among other additions, I will have detailed
page showing how to convert (+) to (-) ground including the gage
rework. My instructions will not involve cutting of any wires at all.

Last year I meet a guy who does the actual restoration for a car museum
here in Los Angeles. The cars he does go into a lot of the very top
shows. He has been very helpful to me over the past months. I asked
him about body filler and body preparation. This advice is for
automobile repairs in general so I think we should add that when doing
body work on an Amphicar the more body work you do with metal (brazing,
welding or even lead) the longer your job will last. The advice I got
for using body filler was as follows: After you have finished your
metal work a good epoxy primer is PGG DP40. After you apply it you must
allow 2 days for it to dry. Next, EVERCOAT RAGE is the recommended
body filler. It makes a very good bond with the DP40. Last ( before you
paint) PPG NCP 280 primer is recommended. It dries with a shine so you
can see areas needing work without having to pour kerosene all over the
car. Anyone who is at this stage of restoration might want to run these
ideas by your body man.
