I haven't seen anything about Billy Syx's annual Spring Swim In on the
Mullica River here in NJ. I usually attend as it is a great event. Does
anyone know if Billy is planning one this year?

===============
Gary,
Billy Syx's SPRING gathering at East Coast Amphicar (see
http://www.galloweb.com/~amphi ) was already held on May 3rd and 4th, and
was a brand new idea. In fact, this was its first year. Billy and Randy's
longstanding BIG annual end-of-summer cast-of-hundreds shindig is actually
held every Labor Day Weekend. For 2003 (it's 15th year? 16th?) that's
August 30th and 31st, with maybe an additional Amphi cruise on the Mullica
River for any survivors on Labor Day itself, September 1st. Details on what
is ALWAYS one of the greatest Amphi-parties of the year will appear in due
course on the Club's Events Calendar at
http://www.amphicar.com/calendar.htm
.
I have made a point of making it to Billy's Labor Day Do every year since
the mid-nineties, since it just might be the greatest combo party-BBQ-live
musicfest-bonfires on the east coast, even if it didn't have lots of Amphis,
which, of course it also does. I also made this year's new "Spring
gathering", and it sort of reminded me of those old upstate New York
Swim-Ins of yore: being less like a Convention with a captial "C" and more
like a nice cozy little group of co-conspirators. I managed to show up the
evening before, so Billy was kind enough to squeeze me into his really busy
garage to help evict some nagging bilge-blower timer gremlins and assorted
other species of nags afflicting the fjord green beast. One thing I can
count on is that my Amphi ALWAYS leaves Mays Landing running better than it
came...even if Billy hasn't actually touched it. I suspect there may be
some "tonic" or "enzyme" in that Mullica River water or something...
