I'd like to get in touch with Sidney Armistead in Anchorage. Is he a member
of this list and does he own a car? If anyone can forward me an email
address I'd like to shoot the bull with him as they say.
Thanks, Craig... Big Lake AK

Hi Amphicar-Lovers!
I have seen the Amphicar every so often over my years
here in Seattle. This past weekend was opening day of
Boating Season.. and I had a water-side-front-row-seat
of the parade of boats passing through the ship canal
into Lake Washington. When I saw three Amphicars
motoring along side by side, I knew I had to finally
find out more about them.
A trip to Amphicar.com has made it soo easy! Your
fascinating world has me hooked. My husband shudders
at the thought of me finding one and beginning the
restoration project. (He's not the mechanically
inclined type... I am!)My eye-rolling-teenaged-kids
are intrigued.. and a bit leery of Mom's wacky plans.
Right now I am a just an observer, student, of
anything "amphicar". I truly enjoy your website, and
have learned so much about what this project is going
to take. Someday, somehow, I will have an Amphicar!
Thank you for allowing "novices" such as myself to
evesdrop and learn what you all have worked to so hard
to do!
Regards,
Katherine G.

Welcome to the list Katherine, I'm new to the Amphi seem myself. I
started lurking on the list about two years ago. I learned alot and
figuared some day i'd find a rust bucket in Alaska to rebuild. Well
last November a car pops up on ebay. Great price and in much better
condition than i thought I'd find in my price range, and of all places
it was in my back yard, just across the street from the office
actually. I hope to go for my first float in a few weeks. I'm still
frozzen in up here. These are a great bunch of people. I hope to meet
them in Celina some day...

Hi Katherine,

Welcome aboard! You are the 243rd member of the Amphicar Digest.

We have all been where you are right now. Heck, I started this list a
few years back when I found myself becoming obsessed with owning one
of those weird little cars like the one I saw in a museum. Learning
all you can now will go a long way toward helping you find the right
Amphi. Likewise, I am sure there is someone in your area who would be
willing to take you for your first drive into the drink.

Do note that you can see the entire archives of this list (even the
pre-Yahoogroups items). Just go to
http://www.escribe.com/automotive/amphicar/index.html

==============

Is "HRcrock" in Melbourne acquainted with his fellow Amphicar-owning
countryman Rowan Hatfield up north in Brisbane?

I'm not sure what "the member page" might be, or if it's Mike Israel or
Echemann or some other Mike on the List being hailed, but I DO know that
Amphicar owners in 'Oz' are awfully few and far between, so thought I ought
to mention Rowan. I think he monitors this List from time to time, but if
"HRcrock" would like me to pass along his address to Rowan, he can drop me a
line "off-list" through the Club website at www.amphicar.com.

A fellow called today that I met at the Edemonds Wash. car
show I was in with my Amphicar . a month ago,he came to my
house today ,
He has a Amphi also , I told him About the club , and gave
him the imfo, He said he will mail in the check to join the club,
this week , I also let him take the tape of the Clena outing last
year to look at .that I got . I wonder how many other Amphies there
our out there , with 330 members in the club. as a newer member , I
didn:t realize there were that many of us ! if we can find more
members it would be great. long live the club!!

Here is the address on one of the newest members of the club. He purchased
the 6th car that I "found and rescued".

Restoration and good swimming will happen soon! And another car back in use.
And the endless fun continues.

To Firechief -

I lived in Pompano Beach for 35 years and relocated to the Daytona Beach area 5 years ago. Though there are probably some other Amphicar owners in the Fort Lauderdale area, the principal one near you is Joel Stewart in Pompano Beach on South Cypress Road (the North south street that becomes 18th Avenue in Fort Lauderdale, not Cypress Creek Road that cross I-95 and ends at Bayview Drive in Fort Lauderdale). Joel is gung ho Amphicar and livesjustsouthofCypress Creek itself. He is one of the rare birds that has no qualms about taking Amphis into salt water !

For your information, you can go west out Atlantic Blvd to Coconut Creek and find non-salt boating and a good ramp. That was my usual and closest fresh water when I lived down there.

If you are new to Amphicars and the South Florida area, the big event for our Amphicars is the upcoming 9th annual Southeastern Amphicar Swim-In which is in conjunction with the Antique Wooden Boat show in Mount Doraeach March. We have a great Amphicar Swim-In and (keeping our fingers crossed) we have had 8 spectacular Swim-Ins in a row there. The weather has been great and there are 150+ antique wooden (and others) boats and a "Woodie Gathering" of wooden bodied station wagons and convertibles as well. Mount Dora is a delightful laid back town full of antique shops and ambiance.

I also just bought a '66 Amphi and was wondering if there are any other
Amphi's here in South Florida on the east coast (West Palm Beach) area?
Are any events planned here in Florida besides Mt. Dora? Thanks.
