It seems that I need to rebuild the engine in my Amphicar. That was probably one of the reasons (or I hope the MAIN reason) that it was always running hot. I'm looking for a good price on a rebuild kit for the engine or any engine parts to rebuild.

I guess after the engine is done there will be NOTHING else left to redo on my Amphicar. I should be swimmin' like a fish IN water instead of OUT OF water next year in Celina. Maybe I'll finally get enough confidence to attend some other Swim ins?

If you know of any parts that I can use please e-mail me off line. Thanks. Ina in the Boro ribcab@verizon.net

I would recommend a proper diagnosis before you incur the expense of an
entire engine rebuild. Uusally engine overheating is NOT an indication
that an entire engine rebuild is necessary, and it is possible that you
could rebild the engine and stillhave engine overheating problems.
Overheating is usually indicative of clogged or faulty radiator, water
pump, thermostat, or water passages, or porr ignition timing, or bad
carburetor adjustment (usually too lean) or in some cases, bad cam of
valve timing, nono of which requirte an engine rebuild.

Should you have a cracked head or block then simply replacing the engine might be more cost effective. Your machine shop will need to tell you what size pistons to go with before you buy them, etc. As Chas said, before ordering parts have the engine removed and gone through.

Thanks for the info. We'll check out all of the other reasons that I may be overheating when we get a working engine. Yes, I really do need engine work, trust me. The engine has been inspected & what were my most feared report for the last 2 summers in Celina has happened. ENGINE TROUBLE.

It's like the leak I had in my pond for over3 years. I just thought it would seal itself up but it never happened. I finally bit the bullet (with the pond), took out the fish & plants, drained it & rebuilt the pond. (It's actually so much nicer now. I have a waterfalls.)

So, all of this is to tell you that Gord, Dave the Wave, & my mechanic have all given their diagnosis, Engine work it is.

Thanks again for the overheat info. We'll check out all of your recommendations. Ina in the Boro
