This is part of a note from My Dad.
My great day continued and I went on to Mt. Dora for the Amphicar and
antique cars and boats show. Everything was ideal and wonderful there
too, except for the
difficulty of finding a place to park. Private property owners were
renting parking places on their lawns but everywhere I looked they were
full. I finally found a space and
then it was a long walk to the lake front.
That was a very well worthwhile walk. My primary interest was the
Amphicar display but the Antique cars and boats were also worth driving
a thousand miles for. One of
the antique cars was the 1948 Ford Woody which is the car I'm building
the models of. I took pictures and told the owners about my models for
grandchildren. I will be
happy if my models look half as good as their original restored mint
condition real one.
I had hoped to see Arnold and Sharon Hite, the owners of "Halfboat".
They are wonderful people and I did find them. Last year, going to
Celina, I passed them twice in
Kentucky, and, since they were towing "halfboat", I knew they were going
to Celina, where I met them and had a very enjoyable visit and
conversation. The subject was
"Stilts", of which I have some knowledge.
Celina, last year was a marvelous adventure, and it was part of a much
greater adventure which included all the Midwest family members.
Last year was Adventure Supreme, and this year is off to a great start.
How could I be so fortunate? I saw Tampa Tommy and Lynne. What
wonderful people.
I think the way to describe Amphicar People is to say they are the
"salt of the earth". I'm not sure I like that expression but it's a way
of saying they are the best.
I had a ride on the lake with Tommy. Then I was almost ready to leave
and go home but if Mr. Hite would drive into the water I would look for
another ride. He did and I got
my ride and then he drove me to my car parking place in "halfboat" and
we parted company.
I then headed home to Hudson, had some supper, my evening drink,
watched Lawrence Welk, and then felt the need to record as much as
possible about this great day's
adventure.
I took a lot of pictures today and good or bad I'll send them to the
people involved
` Much thanks and much love to all. What a great day!
Of course I think you guys are the greatest in any field of great
ones.
