Magnetic Fuel Valve Location Question

Hi All.

Question: My '64 (100196) does not have the little welded tab for the magnetic
valve to
bolt to. Does anyone else have a car where it is located elsewhere? If so, I
sure could use
a picture of the bolt-down location.

Thanks!
Dan

Dan,
If you look at the picture in the files section labeled "steering
brace", you will see the magnetic valve and the tab it is mounted on.
I use this tab to also brace the steering box.

Hi John

Unfortunately, my car does not have that tab. It appears that it never did! Is
there any
other place this thing might have been bolted?

Thanks
Dan

Dan,
In very late cars, the valve is located on a second tab that is welded
onto the same plate but more to the right and rear of the car. I've
heard that some of the very earliest cars didn't have this valve at
all. Perhaps that is true and your car is one of those. Otherwise,
that tab might have been removed from your car, although I can't
imagine that you wouldn't see some remnant from the weld that held the
tab. I wouldn't think having a tab fabricated and installed would be
too difficult although if you were to weld it in, it would certainly
require some repainting of the area both above and below the panel.
If no tab exists, I would probably mount the valve to a new tab that I
would mount to some existing hardware. Almost any place under the gas
tank would work. I would just try to avoid the welding. I doubt the
valve would require a very sturdy mount since there are only normal
intertial forces applied to it and I don't think the valve is very heavy.

Dan,

As my car is a very early one it was w/o the valve. I added it by
making a bracket (about 4" long) from 3/4" flat stock. I bolted it to
the bottom heater mount bolt and installed the bracket horizontally
with the valve on one end. By adding a small twist, the valve will
sit vertical. I will try to get a pic of it tonight. No drilling or
welding req'd.

Dan,

I will post a pic in the files section (fuel_solenoid.jpg) of how I
mounted mine drilling only 1 hole in the heater mount.
