Light on dashboard bilge pump switch

Two questions regarding the light on dashboard bilge pump switch:

1.) Why does it have to be a 24V bulb? Why not 12V? (Mine glows VERY dimly).

2.) Is the light wired in such a way that it illuminates only when the
switch is pulled out, or is it wired in such a way that it glows only if
juice is making it back to the actual pump motor?

Wouldn't it be really cool if we could wire the light to come on whenever a
float switch raised up enough to trigger the back-up bilge pump?

Thanks, Brian Davis

> HI Brian,

I did just that to my car . all you need to do is get a float switch
check www.westmarine.com and go to your local radio shack and you can
buy 12v bulbs I drilled a hole in the dash and installed a blue light
that comes on when I get a certain amount of water then I know to
make sure bilge is turned on or working.

Doug

or you can check dave chapmans page about a water alarm but i like
the light makes people worry less
