land shifter bracket

I have 2 Amphicars that are in pieces and I'm putting one together I
noticed that one car had the rear bracket (part # 11-43-25) for the
land shifter rod on the transmission and the other car has it mounted
on the cross member. Both cars have holes in the cross member to mount
the bracket. My question is should the bracket be mounted on the cross
member or on the transmission. I seems to me it would be better to
mount the bracket on the transmission, so why does one car have it on
the cross member. Was there a change somewhere alone the way?

Thank You

Tony,

My understanding is that early Amphicars had the shift rod mounted to
the frame but Amphicar moved it to the tranmission to better stabilize
the shift positions. I suppose that many, if not all, Amphicars would
still have the unused, old mounting holes on the cross member.
