LAKE MIRROR CLASSIC Auto Festival in downtown Lakeland

8th Annual Event Saturday October 20th, 2007

Any of you who have previously attended this show know that it is truly a “classy” festival. This classic show is becoming one of the most talked about and popular classic car events in the southeast because of its scenic setting, relaxed ambiance and the range of beautiful and exotic cars on display. It is free to the public. Some 500 cars are expected this year and thousands of spectators. Live classical background music plays throughout the day to enhance the ambiance and about 100 of the special cars are displayed around the lake itself including our Amphicars, Other special cars include Duesenbergs, last year a Batmobile and an eye popping assemblage of other note-worthy and beautiful cars. The rest of the vehicles are displayed in groups of similar models or clubs in the surrounding 16 block area. This is the 4th time our Amphicars will be featured and the public heartily welcomes us. Because of the excitement the Amphicars generate, the event sponsors are very anxious to have the Amphicars and have invited us to take them swimming in the morning while cars are arriving and at the much heralded 1 PM “Splash In” when the crowd gets to see what our “James Bond cars” are like and we get to really show them off.

In addition to the cars, as before, a group of classic wooden boats will be moored along the 1920’s era seawall and these boats will also be showing off their beautiful classic lines along with the Amphicars at 1 o’clock.

This year, the city has built a brand new concrete boat ramp on the north side of the lake specifically to accommodate this event replacing the portable ramps previously used. Lake Mirror normally has no boats at all. Registrants are treated to all sorts of “goodies” including a custom made display sign made specifically for your Amphicar (if you have Pre-registered,) a catered lunch for two, a “Goody bag from area merchants,” and an event souvenir which last year was a folding chair with a carrying case. A gratis sumptuous breakfast buffet for two for Pre-Registered vehicles is hosted by the show sponsors for those arriving early Saturday morning, but this is from 7:00 to 8:30 am and is usually all over by the time any Amphicars arrive.

The show is a charitable event and pre-registration is $35 ($50 after October 1st.)
For information and a Registration packet, contact Ginny Askew at (863)683-2228 or by e-mail: gaskew@heacock.com

Come and enjoy a really nice show. It is a treat for the senses in a beautiful setting and as a bonus, spend a relaxing day with other Amphicar friends at Lake Mirror.
