Re: LAKE MIRROR CLASSIC in Lakeland, Florida October 20-22, 2006
Any of you who are in Florida or nearby have probably heard about the annual Lake Mirror Classic Car show in Lakeland Florida. For the last 2 years, Amphicars have participated and have been heartily welcomed by the throngs of spectators.
Theevent has become one of the premier automobile shows in the southeast with some 400 cars and a reported 25,000 spectators. 100 of the more special cars, which includes the Amphicars, as well as a widely diverse display of classics including Duesenbergs, Cords, Rolls Royces and Mercedes-Benz are featured around the lake itself with live classical music performed all day to enhance the ambiance. A special aspect of this show for the Amphicar owners is that the lake has no ramp and ordinarily HAS NO BOATS. The event organizers constructed a special portable ramp for the Amphicars which was marginally workable the first year, but with a much improved ramp, worked fine last year. The day beforethe show, a crane lifts a small number of restored wooden antique runabouts into the lake. Then in the middle of the day on Saturday, we go splashing in and cruise around with the antique boats to the delight of the spectators and then come back out and caravan back to our designated area.
Anyone interested in this show should call or e-mail Ginny Askew who is the Event Coordinator and in charge of Registration and she will send you the brochure and Entry Form. The show is a charitable event and registration is $35 which includes Breakfast for 2, a Lunch for 2, a Car sign, “Goody bag” and a show souvenir which last year was a nice folding chair with carrying bag suitable for using next to your show car.
