For those interested, here is a link to all of my raw (no cropping or
processing) photos from today at Lake Miramar.

We had a great day in San Diego, with the temperature about 85F, just a
slight breeze and perfectly clear skies. The Lake (actually a reservoir) was
a bit more crowded this year, as there was a charity walk going on all day.
We also had an Italian journalist who shot many photos and took interviews
with Amphi owners, so, when I get a link for his story, I'll share that too.

Thanks to everyone who brought their Amphis; we had an excellent day.

Ed- Looks like a great time! I'm sorry I didn't come but negotiating those close confines is just too much for my big trailer. I've also taken on two more resto projects and simply ran out of time to prepare. Blondie is mad at me for not going since she also missed her customary stop at Acorn Casino on the way home! Undoubtedly, we'd be $100,000s of dollars richer today had we gone. Congratulations! - AZP

Although I am not an aficionado of Tribal Casinos, in all fairness, I have
to say that the biggest attraction of Golden Acorn is that it's part of a
truck-stop on I8; the first Casino you encounter if you are heading from
Yuma to San Diego. It reminds me of those trailers that used to be placed in
the desert along I15, just inside the Nevada state line.

I suggest you hold your cash for another 45 minutes, and try the Viejas
Tribal Casino in Alpine. It's much larger, has numerous outlet stores, and a
variety of decent restaurants and fast food places. There is a large water
playground that the kids will love, and you can sit around watching the wet
T-shirts.

Once in San Diego, we have two other Tribal Casinos; the Sycuan, which is
nice and has a big Golf course, and the Barona, situated in a mountain
meadow (two-lane access, but the tour busses manage it) and has literally
huge facilities (IIRC, a 500 room hotel, meeting halls, and of course, a big
casino).

For those headed to San Diego, and who have a compulsion to leave their
money in a casino, I would recommend Viejas for convenience and Barona for
luxury.

Ed - My big rig is what dictates where we go most of the time. As you saw last year, I'm like 50 feet long. Acorn is easy to get around and we really stop just long enough to refresh and refuel. lolol I usually end up eating alone so Blondie can play her slots. She is hitting +0.60 based on our last 5 trips. Because of the mountain grade Ocotillo/La Mesa, I must refuel once on SoCal roundtrips (on the way home). That's another reason for Acorn. Usually our SoCal runs are one-day affairs because we have animals at home. Yuma has two casinos, Quechan and Cocopah. As a primary area economic consultant, my work helped to get both of them built. Both have car-related events but none that lend themselves to Amphicars specifically. That is one reason why I took my ill-fated Amphi trip down the lower Colorado (below Imperial Dam) to see if it was practical for an Amphi event. It wasn't and the distance to our well-suited area is an inconvenient distance to accommodations. Had circumstances been better, I'd write a proposal (as I've done before) and present it to the Chamber of Commerce. It also just so happens the current city manager and I served together in the USMC which would help. I guess I'm stuck here alone in my AMphi "without a paddle." - AZP
