Junkyard wars question

One thing I must have missed, how did you seal up the hole where the
drive chain passed through the hull?

It was a really good effort with a exciting ending, certainly not
what I expected, mostly!

Right, that is a very good question because it didn't appear that the
guys were sitting in water. I was surprised also to see the boat
being used backwards.

That was easy: I simply built a closed chain case covering the chain and the
upper wheel, sealed carefully at the bottom and stuck on the transmissions
end. I just had to seal it with the transbox than, cause the rotating shaft
had to be already sealed again oil. See picture:

The frame you see around the chain case I have added for safety, because I frightened that the chain could could cut the case when coming off at high speed and killing both drivers. Thank godness that did not happen!

The reason, why this howyoudoit is not mentioned in the film is, that we ran out of time on the last building day. While the team had a day off next day, I had to complete the vehicle and make it run. This chain case I built the day after the building day. Oh - it was no cheating, the other experts were working on their vehicles as well. However we helped each other very much and yes it was great fun. 
But that is the reason for why I was so tired the racing day and had to take a nap in the boat. It was most comfortable.
