interior kits

Hi All,

As mentioned previously, I purchased an interior kit
from Gord Souter about two weeks ago. This week I
started installing it and am so pleased that I had to
throw in a plug for what is truly an excellent product
at a great price.

For $700 you get everything, and I mean everything,
needed for your interior. Seat covers, a fully
assembled rear seat back (just drop it in), door
panels, triangle shaped trim for up front, door panels
with very well made pockets and all holes
pre-drilled,rear side panels, extra vinyl for the rear
curved area by the seat, even the hog-rings.

The vinyl material itself seems to be of a high
quality with a thin foam backing. Everything is very
well stitched and sized. I believe the kits are
handmade for Gord by a woman in Canada.

Usual disclaimer applies. No association, just a very
satisfied customer.

Someone asked me if the kits look "original" in terms
of color and style.

While there are some very slight differences, I would
say that these are things that only a show judge would
pick up. I checked the color of my kit (red/white)
against some NOS door panels and an NOS seat. The new
ones look "newer" (the color is brighter) but it is an
excellent match.

Some original interiors used heat stiched seams while
the kits are sewn. The "feel" is a bit more padded
which also makes them more comfortable.

In sum, if I did not think the kit was a close match
to the original I would not have bought it. If you
are going for a 100 point concours restoration then
you will probably have to stick to NOS parts. If you
want an interior that looks 98% original and will
impress your Celina comrades then I do not think you
can go wrong.

You may want to re-consider leather in the Amphi. I have it in all
my other cars but I don't think it will hold up well in something
that gets wet frequently. I'm sure it would look stunning until you
took that first big wave over the windshield.

I'd love to see an Amphi in Plum.

Now's the time to order interior kit.
with the US dollar falling so fast I may not be able to hold the price much
longer.($800US)
I pay my girl $800 Canadian to make these so I'm not making much any more.
I'm heading to California next week so if your on my way(Ont.-CA) we may be
able to work out free shipping.
Good time to order front hood or rear deck lids!

Guys,
I have heard from somewhere (?) that very late model Amphicars
came with a rear seat bottom cushion that was two seperate throwable
flotation cushions. There seem to be two or three different groups
making interior kits at this time. I wonder if someone could offer
this type of seat bottom as an option. It would be great to have a
life preserver that could be quickly accessed for emergencies.

Bill,

Both of my 67 Amphicars came with what's been called "the floater
seat". It's just a cushion made up from floatation foam and a vinyl
covering that matches the rest of the interior. It sits on top of a
1/4" board that's placed on top of the sound deadening panel and it
has two snaps, on little tabs, that hold it in position. I had my
replacement interior kits made up by a shop in New York and they did
a great job on the interior, including making up a new floatation
seat. The original interiors in my cars were quite tired.

Email me know if you want more details or photos of my cars interiors.

I bought an interior kit from Gord in Canada and it too, was made from high
quality vinyl and the color blue that I wanted. In fact, I ordered the kit
with the "spring" rear seat, thinking that I was going to change from the
foam seat to the spring seat. As it turns out, I didn't like the spring
rear seat because my kids were too tall sitting in the backseat. Gord was
nice enough to set up an exchange at no cost. Since then, my son has grown
to 6'5" and can't sit in any backseat. But I'm always getting many
compliments on the interior.
