There is a fellow selling 1-1/4" Tefba cooling system filters(made in Australia) that will fit the Amphicar. Unlike the Gano filters that most people are familiar with, these can be opened and cleaned with little effort. I have used them on FJ40 Land Cruisers, and classic Mustangs and they sure catch a lot of "crud".
I used a Gates 21946 hose and a scrap piece of 90 degree hose to mount my filter(still cheaper than an "original" upper hose). Mounting in the original Amphicar upper radiator hose didn't get it high enough to be able to open it without spilling coolant.
