Does anyone have any approx figures or idea as to how many cars of
each color were produced out of the 3900? Obviously the red cars
were the most numerous, but I don't know the actual stats....

Sorry if this has been asked and answered before, if so, I haven't
seen the post....:)

Hi Scott, I will take a chance or make a guess. It is my understanding that half of all the cars built were Red, 25% white and the other 25% were halfblue andhalf green. I have one of the last Amphicars built and perhaps the only 1968 that still survives. Based on its VIN number I think the total number could have been as high as 4300 Amphicars built, maybe. A good estimate might be to establish the colors of what cars remain
today, and from that a percentage could be calculated. This should
be reflective of what the overall percent would have been from the
factory (except those repainted a different color). Mine is red,
perhaps one of those famous Amphipoda polls would give us all
something to do over the weekend, and solve this puzzling mystery at
the same time? Maybe even a place to click if you know your car was
repainted. I think we could leave yellow and primer brown out.
(sorry Dave)

Of course I could do an IAOC membership database
search by "color" for stats on what color distribution
we currently have, but that doesn't answer the
original question.

that makes you and me with the only 1968 cars? however, i have the only european car: no bilge pump, a locking steering column (ignition below thecolumn), thick tail fins, an a few other 'diferences' that set it apart from the american cars!!

One odd thing is that the Amphi legal title dates are not always a true indication of the date of manufacture. My Amphi is legally a 67, bought off the docks in New Jersey. But the little details tell me that it's more likely a late 63. (So far, the only thing on which I found a date code was the wheel rims.)</font>

I think there may be a few others. Tommy has "Weird Harold" which is
one of the last built. As I recall, it has some of those features. I
hope you mean no bilge blower rather than no bilge pump!!
