HOW MANY AMPHICARS ARE STILL AROUND???

Hello Group:

In light of the Amphicar currently posted on eBay (Item #1820174177)
I would like to ask the group once again their opinion as to:

1. How many Amphicars do we think are still left in the world?

and...

2. Of those left, how many are estimated to still be waterworthy?

I know this subject has been brought up in the past, but now that
Spring is here again, I would like to be as accurate as possible in
what I tell the curious public who ask when I am out on the lakes.

Thanks.

I have heard quite a myriad of numbers from <90 (more than that @
Celina) to ~4000 (they didn't make that many!) I would be surprised
if there were >600 in total (maybe <200 sea worthy at the most?),
including the unknown ones. JMNSO

I am not sure that anyone can give more than an educated opinion. One
time I was ging to investigate how many were registered in the USA
but the costs were prohibitive.

Probably nobody knows how many Amphicars are left but Hugh would be
the best source for how many are still floating. It would be hard to
keep one floating for too long without finding Hugh and his NOS parts.
During just the past year, I must have seen over half a dozen rust
buckets being restored. Just last week I saw one that's almost
totally done and the owner just found another rust bucket to work on
when he's through detailing the first one. These cars are still
coming out from behind the barn.
I think Hugh said that about 4300 cars were made, in total, and about
3700 came to the U.S.
