Horn Repair

I have two original horns neither of which works. Is there an archived post with information about rebuilding the horn? Manual mentions setting the gap, but couldn't find the specs. That might be a moot point, since both of my points look like they've welded themselves together and then broke off the front arm.
Anyone have recommendation on a replacement horn or comments on the one that Gordon Imports sells?
Thanks,
Ted

I have a whole drawer full of old horn =NFG. I have even shipped some out to guys just for the shipping, cause if you fix one it only seems to work for a while then quite again..
Just put one of my drop in. replacements and away you go.
on yea, even they can go wrong sometimes but much better odds.
Hey Dave D, I sent you one with that last floor rubber????

There is a Bosch VW bug horn that is a direct bolt in...even sounds like an Amphi one and all screws align. They arent that easy to find though. There are other VW horns that will work if you add shims, washers etc. Look on Ebay and "The samba.com"

I bought a horn off of eBay from a volkswagon dealer and it fit perfectly.

Haven't tried it yet since the horn is the only thing that is done on the
car :)

For little money Gord Souter sells a horn with bracket attached. His does fit and sounds correct. His floor mat kit is also a bargain. I am a bit biased he always gives Me a professional discount!! And I don't have to melt My snowballs to get it. Later Dave the Wave

First post mentioned points that can be adjusted. My horn makes short sound/buzz but not really a honk so it works but not quite right. anyone know about adjusting it?

I have repaired many original Amphicar horns and have a number of them in stock. Repairing them can be a bit tricky but they sound louder and better than any aftermarket versions I've heard.

You do the final adjustment in place, with the body parts and grill attached, by adjusting a screw on the right side of the horn. You access this screw through the the openings on the back of the horn housing. It's a trial and error system since you generally cannot hold a screwdriver in the slot when sounding the horn.

From my collection of arcane comments:

I used horns from a 80 Honda CB750F motorcycle.
All I had to do was drill 2 more holes to accommodate the horn body screws.
The horn then fit perfectly into the horn body.

I just found an almost identical Amphicar horn & chrome (no body).
The chrome even looks almost identical.
Check out website
<http://www.parrautomotive.com> www.parrautomotive.com & look for part #
PRR0275 for $19.95
The horn (with chrome) fit perfectly into the Amphi horn body.
You'd have to drill out a couple of the rivets & use the original screws to
hold it in. (Source Unknown)
