Hooray for the Lake Dora SWIM-IN

The LAKE DORA SWIM-IN is cranking up. 10 days from now, if you can
tolerate the 70 or 80 degree weather, we're going to have a great time and an
Amphicar Hungry Public to whom we can show off these odd ball machines of ours !

Our new Treasurer, the Cigar Man - John Capone and I just had a great
conversation. John may or may not come to the Lake Dora show, as he says he just
can't get enough of the fluffy white stuff AT HOME and may stay in Illinois.
If he can tear himself away, he just might force himself to put up with some
of our warm weather and sunshine and hospitality. As alluded to in our
President's e-mail, one of the changes the board is instigating is to help the
various Swim-In organizers out with some kind of financial stipend to offset
the expenses attendant to the Swim-Ins. No, he wasn't meaning salaries for the
all volunteer organizers, but just something to help make the Swim-Ins more
special or exciting in the way of Banquet door prizes or badges or what have
you. These remarks are a general overview of some of the ideas being generated
by the Club Board and are not aimed just at the Lake Dora show - Lake Dora
is just the next up on the list.

Soooooooo - any of you who want to bask in the warmth of our sunshine and
shoot the bull with other like minded Amphicarites and just in general have a
great time - give us a call to let us know you are coming and make a Hotel
reservation NOW. ( There is also an RV Resort is only 3 miles from Wooten Park
where the event is taking place. ) The town of Tavares has gone to great
lengths to build a brand new large boat ramp approximately like that at Mount
Dora and is endeavoring to go all out to make this one bang up show. I mentioned
in a previous e-mail that there are land and water shuttles planned between
the event and Mount Dora 5 miles to the east on the same Lake Dora.

If you are interested, Tavares is pronounced "tah vair' ease"

As it stands now, our President John Bevins expects to be in attendance as
well as people with their Amphicars from far distant states and one foreign
country ! (Guess which member and country that is )

As you all know, for 10 years in a row, we have had anywhere from acceptable
( windy 60's ) to outstanding weather and this 11th Anniversary of the
biggest Swim-In in the Southeastern U.S. aims to continue the trend. In case you
don't know it, the Lake Dora Swim-In has a longer history than Celina.
DON'T MISS OUT. COME SHARE YOUR BODIES, YOUR AMPHICARS, YOUR STORIES AND
YOUR FUN WITH THE REST OF US. ALONG THE WAY, YOU CAN SOAK UP SOME OF OUR
SUNSHINE AND EVEN TAKE A BOTTLE OR TWO OF IT BACK TO THE WHITE COUNTRY UP NORTH.

Don't forget there will be the Friday night "Captain's Party" (
Complimentary for those with Amphicars ) hosted by the Antique Boat Club and our own
fantabulous Saturday night AMPHICAR BANQUET with door prizes, silliness and
loads of fun and camaraderie. If you need more information or the phone numbers
of other hotels, call (386) 228-2118. The Inn on the Green will still be our
de facto headquarters and is only 1-1/2 miles from the show.

DON'T FORGET TO CALL DAVE MONIER OR VIC NELSON AND LET US KNOW YOU ARE
COMING.
