Holiday Inn vs. Comfort Inn

Chris,
You certainly are right....the Comfort Inn is closer to the action at the
Eagles and the lake. In the past, the Holiday Inn was the "host" hotel.
That was back a few years ago when we thought we could all stay at one
place! It no longer "officially" is the host hotel because we more than
overflow the entire city, and into St. Marys.
In any case, to answer your question, I think that the Holiday Inn Express
has more less become a habit for many. Yes, the pool is nice for some, but
they typically are a little more welcoming to the Amphicar folks. They are
the only hotel in Celina that gladly blocks off their entire hotel just for
Amphicar people, and they give us the best rates in town. Heck, this year
they were even giving people towels for their cars! (plus, they have warm
cookies at the front desk!)

But yes, the Comfort Inn is certainly a fine option. The only reason that
Holiday Inn Express came up today is because they have opened up their books
for reservations. The Comfort Inn or the Lighthouse Inn wait until January
to take reservations.

Marc.

We stayed at the Comfort Inn for this last Swim In. Today, I made my
reservations for the Holiday Inn Express for next year's Swim In. I think
it is far superior regardless of the rates.

Hi Jim,
Asside from the rates, why do you favor the Holiday Inn over the
Comfort Inn? The Comfort Inn is certainly nearer to the action.
Although I certainly enjoyed the (almost) all night chats in the
Holiday Inn parking lot, I was thinking of booking the Comfort Inn
next year.

Re: Re: Holiday Inn vs. Comfort Inn

Hi John,
In response to your question of why we did not re-book at the Comfort Inn for
next year's Swim In at Celina, I offer the following reasons/observations:

I asked and was supposedly quoted the lowest rate a month before the Swim In
by the Comfort Inn in Celina (I called Celina directly instead of using their
national reservations). When I guaranteed it with my credit card, I was told
that I would have to cancel three weeks in advance to get a refund if we
changed our mind about staying there. By comparison, the Holiday Inn will
refund your guarantee if you cancel before 6:00 PM the day of check in.

When I arrived at the Comfort Inn, I asked the desk clerk if they had any
available rooms before I acknowledged my reservation. I was told I could get
a room for a rate that was $10.00 per night less than I was quoted on my
reservation. After I complained they offered me the lower rate. The rate
was still considerably higher than the Holiday Inn.

Our room was on the second floor overlooking the parking lot. Our room door
opened to an outside walkway/balcony. There was a parking lot light next to
the door of our room which attracted thousands of bugs. The first night,
when we opened our door, several hundred bugs that were on our door, flew
into our room. Thereafter, I would always stop at the front desk and ask
them to turn off the light for five minutes before we entered our room! By
comparison, the Holiday Inn has internal hallways.

One afternoon, the "maid" (all of which looked like convicts on a work
release program), entered our room WITHOUT knocking first, to make up our
room.

On the positive side, the Comfort Inn did provide a continental breakfast of
orange juice, coffee, rolls and three kinds of cereal. They are closer to
the Eagles--if you drink to much, you can walk to your room instead of
driving.

After our three night stay at the Comfort Inn, we went to the Holiday Inn and
inspected their rooms for possible consideration for next year's event. My
wife and I felt they were considerably newer and cleaner.

By the way, I do not have any stock or interest in Holiday Inn Express. I
originally booked at the Comfort Inn because my personal experience with
Comfort Inns has always been positive. The one in Celina has to date, been
the only exception. The hotel was, in my opinion, "tired" and not a "fresh"
as the Holiday Inn.

I hope this has been responsive to your request.
Sincerely,
Jim Passolt

Jim,
That explains your decision and I appreciate the input. I was
thinking of switching over there next year because of it's proximity
to the Eagles, but on balance, I suspect I'll stay at the Holiday Inn.
Thanks,
