Hey group,
We have a new Amphicar owner among us, and he is planning on signing up for
the Digest....but he has a question that he asked me to throw out to
everyone while he is getting signed up. (I really bragged on you guys, so
don't make me a liar!)
His name is Rob Schiller, and he lives in Northern Kentucky...maybe 30
minutes from me. He just bought an Amphicar that has been sitting for maybe
10 or 15 years. The car was parked and partially disassembled for some body
work. Well, the body work was mostly done, but the project was never
finished. The engine and transmission are still in the car, and everything
looks complete, just sitting for a long time. It seems the engine is froze
up....and he is hoping to avoid an overhaul at this point. His goal is just
to get the thing running, then go from there.
thanks,
Marc Schlemmer.
Here is what he says via email......
----------------------
Here's what is going on. My mechanic put a new starter on the car and it
still won't turn over. He said he tried to "get in there" and turn it with
a wrench, but he couldn't do it. He also pulled the plugs and squirted some
fluid inside the engine. He thinks the engine may need to get overhauled.
Is there anything he can do to turn it over? (in other words, is there any
amphicar unique technique to turn it over?)
Please let me know what you think.
Sincerely,
Rob Schiller
