Every year we get a great gift from the club and you wonder, "what can
they possibly do to top that?" Well, you did it again. Nice going.

Hi Dan and Cathy: I am trying to register my Amphi at the Parks and wildlife
dept. (Airport rd., Fort Worth)as a boat. The said they want current
registation from Colorado (Where I bought the Amphi) or proof that it wasn't
registered in Colorado. The previous owner won't get me the required items to
complete the registration. Do you all know of a different way to register it?
Any other Texans out there know how to resolve this do please ring me up or
email me. mstrug@juno.com 817-489-2301. Thanks! Marc Struglia. Amphigr66n

Marc:

I had a similar problem in Texas with the registration of a motorcycle with
no papers in the late 80s. I'd bought this Norton N15CS "desert sled"
scrambler as a "basket case" with no papers from a guy whose uncle, long
deceased, had used the bike on his ranch near Hearne. Since the thing had
no plates or even a plate holder on the fender, I suspect that it may never
have actually been registered for road use, but just used as a on the
property as a "farm tool".

When I got to the DMV in Austin with only a Bill of Sale, they directed me
to a certain magistrate's office. If memory serves, I merely handed over the
Bill of Sale along with some sort of form explaining the situation to the
clerk, and about a week later I came by and picked up a fresh new Texas
title. I can't recall if there was any extra fee for this service, but if
there was, it can't have been very much.

In any event, you might want to contact the DMV and ask them what one does
about "title-less vehicles" where one only has a Bill of Sale. Presumably
they will direct you to the same or a similar magistrate's office to the one
I visited, and perhaps they can help one with obtaining some kind of boat
title as well as vehicle titles. Like anything else, bureaucratic
satisfaction often depends on who one deals with, whether they've properly
digested their morning donut and whether he she or it likes the color of
your shirt. Your mileage may vary, objects may appear closer, etc., etc.,
etc. But, I'll wager that the average denizen of the DMV has way more
experience with title-less vehicles than the run of the mill Yogi or Boo-Boo
in Parks and Wildlife have with title-less boats.

Bill: The funny thing is that I have a vehicle title after going thru a title
service in Alabama and they sent some paperwork from Maine and gave that to the
DMV. I now have plates. The P&W Dept. want a Vessel registration from the past
or prove negative that it wasn't registered in Colorado. Marc.
