grease

I have been using a typical grease on the front wheels that I believe
is too water soluble and therefore streaking out over the wheels and
tires. What type of grease should we be using to avoid this unsightly
occurrence and of course we don't want our bearings wearing out
prematurely.

We had a great time at Wisconsin Dells this weekend, the rock
formations carved by the melting of the ice age sure is beautiful.
Cruising around with the DUCKs was a great experience, we had so many
DUCK passengers taking our picture that many of the drivers had to
stop more than once. There are 65 DUCKs in the Dells says one driver,
we just wonder how much one would cost or how many you would need for
parts to keep one going. I don't think we could manage on only one
prop and you would definitely need a semi to trailer it to Celina.

Caryl and I think it would be great to participate in a swim-in there,
it's just too bad there isn't a good ramp in the downtown area.

Check out Dave and Wayne on the attached.

Go to http://www.carstrucksvans.com/amsoil/ and place an order! It is
second to none and the best choice for the Amphi. Besides
Amphicar.net is funded by Amsoil. Your dollars come right back!

Marty,

Yikes! Such a question is bound to work the BilgeMaster up into a real tizzy.

As all long-time amphicar digest subscribers can attest, the only grease that anyone shoud even think about using on their Amphi is Amsoil's Synthetic, Water Resistant Grease. It is some great stuff and is available at http://www.carstrucksvans.com/amsoil/

Marty,

Not to worry

1. use amsoil click on bilgemasters page amphicar.net

2. Come to Celina next year and stop in 40 minutes away and we have 3
different dukw's leaving daily for a river cruise.

speaking of Dukw's there is a good special on History channel about
these amphib wonders.

really need some help. Can someone who knows how to access and
grease wheel bearings please tell me how to get to them. (This is for
my red 1963 Amphicar)

I was told I have to take the brakes off.

For rear bearings I pull hub off every couple of years or when doing
rear brakes. Billy was just in there and you should be good to go for a
long time. Do not over grease or you will push grease out on to brakes.
Take Doug up on his offer. He is a great host. Later Dave the Wave

I am not sure how I got the idea that I was supposed to do this
every 10 hours of swimming. Couple years sounds MUCH better! :)

I very well may take Doug up on that offer! Been wanting to visit
Wright-Patterson AFB and Aircraft museum. Its been about 10 years
since I was there and would like to go again.

Thanks again for your information!

we all have different opinions
l go with full hubs in all my boat trailers and amphi trailers, I have about
20 trailers.
My belief is that if there are no air pockets in them, they cannot fill up
with water.
I use special marine grade quality greases. I have been looking after
trailers for 20 years this way, although I still take them fully apart and
inspect them once a year. And, yes, you must make sure you do not over
grease or it will leak out on the brakes.

In regards to Hugh's comment on the double seals, he has a good note that
there is no clip in there. So, I grease the one closest to the prop first
and only put a few shots in the second, as I don't want grease to squirt out
the tranny end into the bilge.

now im confused ; amphiguru mentioned that chassis grease may liquify
if used as wheel bearing grease but ive seen other posts reccomending
amsoil grease in the wheel bearings. is there a waterproof grease that
is reccomended for amphi wheel bearings? also,i ordered amsoil 80-90
wt GL4 marine gear lube for my tranny but they sent me 75-90 wt
GL4/GL5 instead. my local amsoil dealer says "no problem", its the
same or better.does anyone know if he's right?
