2008 11th Annual LAKE DORA
SOUTHEASTERN AMPHICAR SWIM-IN
March 28-30, 2008 Friday to Sunday
The wonderful Mount Dora Antique Boat Show has morphed into the Lake Dora Antique Boat Show. The event is still on Lake Dora, but has shifted 5 miles West to Wooten Park on the NW shore in Tavares because it has become a victim of its own success and needs more space. Wooten Park has much more room for the over 150 antique Boats along with the Amphicars and the Wooden bodied Cars ( Woodies ) as well as for the public to park. Just for the record, 2008 will be the 21st Annual Antique Boat Show, the 15th Annual Woodie Show and the 11th Annual Amphicar Swim-in on Lake Dora. For the last 10 years, we have had great weather. The worst we have experienced were temperatures in the 60’s on Friday at a couple of the complimentary Captains’ Parties hosted by the Antique Boat people or a little cool or windy on Saturday. In any event, the weather has certainly been an improvement on the temperatures and snow up north - or so we have been told !
Actual AMPHICAR Registration as usual will be handled by Dave Monier right at the show. However, to facilitate event activity planning and to get the $25 Show Registration rate, anybody bringing an Amphicar needs to contact Dave Monier or send the coupon which will be in the Jan/Feb Amphicar Newsletter to Dave BY MARCH 20th. Otherwise, the Registration will be $35 the same as the rest of the Antique Boat participants.
It is strongly suggested that anyone attending should make hotel reservations soon because this is traditionally a busy weekend. Dave will reserve a block of rooms at the Inn on the Green at a reduced rate, but you MUST ASK FOR THE AMPHICAR CLUB RATE. An advantage of the new show location for the Amphicar folks is that the Inn on the Green, which is our defacto headquarters, as well as the Golden Corral where we hold our Banquet and a nice RV park are only 2-3 miles from Wooten Park. The Lakeside Inn and the other Mount Dora area hotels are still close by. In addition, the Event organizers are planning both land and water shuttles between Wooten Park and the Mount Dora area and we expect to also utilize the Mount Dora Gilbert Park boat ramp with our Amphicars for some of our “swimming.”
For additional Hotel or RV park information, please call Dave Monier at (352) 726-5074 or Victor Nelson at (386)228-2118 or send an e-mail to nelson625@aol.com If you call me and get my answering machine, please leave a message with your phone number and I will get back to you.
Directions to Wooten Park are very simple as the park is right on the NW border of Lake Dora and just off U.S.441. Victor (Capt. Splash) Nelson with the 1967 “Split Personality”</font>
