With the talk about the Yahoo limitations, maybe this is a good time
to mention this again. I hope nobody is offended by my suggestion.
It is only out of respect for all club members that I mention it
again.

The AACA has a fantastic forum site
(http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?Cat=) with many kind
and knowledgable folks (yes, even a couple of us Amphicar guys!).
They were quickly tossed and never heard from again. They have again
offered to us (Amphicar Club) our own place in the forums along side
marques like Lincoln, Auburn, Chandler, Stutz, Pierce-Arrow and
Marmon to name only a few. There is a fantastic picture site which
does not have the limitations of Yahoo. No annoying ads to slow down
your surfing. You can use HTML (colors, pictures and actual working
links) in the body of your message. Did I say it is FREE?

This is a win - win situation for all of us which I can not see a
downside to. Better visability for our beloved Amphicars in the
collectable community and in the general public eye as well. This
Yahoo site has served us well (Many heartfelt thanks to Mike!), but
we are out growing it. I think this opportunity to improve it by
leaps and bounds should be given some serious thought by all. They
(AACA) are only waiting for the word. I will not have them add a
forum without the blessing of the club, specifically from Mike
Isreal.

Hello John,

No offense taken. The idea of moving from Yahoogroups to another service seems
to pop up about once a year or so. Some time back the folks at team.net (who
host the big British car digests) offered to host the Amphi list, now it sounds
like we have an offer from AACA as well.

I am not beholden to Yahoo. I think they offer a pretty good service but also
wish there were more options to enhance and customize a few things. The price
is certainly right. Shortcomings include that the photo section can not be
enlarged at any price and they do insert small ads at the end of messages (which
I can also not pay to remove). A big positive is that subscribers can choose to
receive messages in multiple formats (individual e-mail, daily digest e-mail,
web only), there is an easy to use archive of postings, and pop-ups are a thing
of the past. Do note that I could turn on embedded html, files, etc., in
messages but intentionally disabled them. This was done a few years back when
people were posting virus infected files. Likewise, to control spammers who
join simply to post a Viagra ad, messages from all new users are initially
moderated at least until I see an Amphi related post. .

Anyhow, the last time I floated the idea about moving the list the overwhelming
response was to leave it as is. Should the tide of opinion change I will be
more than happy to consider moving it. Right now we have 347 subscribers so I
would need to hear at least a fair number of voices. In looking at the AACA
lists (powered by InfoPop's bbs software) I see both strengths and weaknesses
versus the Yahoo offerings. If others take a look and consider it a better
mousetrap I would go with the group's consensus.

Oh yes, I would ask all list subscribers to keep in mind that this list is run
seperately from the International Amphicar Owner's Club. If you are not already
a member of the IAOC then do visit http://www.amphicar.com promptly to sign up
today.

Cheers,

Mike I.
