Flo-Jet Prob Solved

The brass pick up apparently needs to be perfectly flat on it's mount.
Mine was not and was sucking some air. It is now firmly mounted between
the tabs and spits out water well. It's nice to take the car in water
and not worry (too much anyway) about sinking her. Each time I venture
out further and further away from the landing, bilging in the lake and
when I get out.
So far twice I forgot to secure the safety latch on my door and once
applied the brakes in the water. But my bilge plug has been in place
every time! I look forward to having tons of fun this summer with this
car.

So Brian, how'd the brakes work in the water?
Mine don't seem very functional although they
are useful and necessary for ensuring your
rear wheels are NOT rotating before engaging
propellers (forward or reverse) since not
stopping your wheels will result in costly
water tranny damage... a tip you won't find
in the owners manual.
Happy to ready your finally swimming and out
there having amphibious fun.

Brian,

Glad to hear you are floating. Much worse than the
door latch, do not forget the bilge plug (been there,
done that, don't ask).

If you do not already have the pre-launch warning
sticker on you Amphi I suggest you order a couple.
Then, treat it like a pre-flight check list. Read it
OUT LOUD each and EVERY time you get into Amphi before
hitting the water. A good Amphi habit to get into.
Someone should probably make a revised sticker to
include full stop before engaging props.

I hope "no glue" does not mean you MIG welded the
rubber door moulding!

More great advise for the rookie! Ok,a little glue. Mike I do have the warning sticker in place andI've been asking the co-pilots to read it out loud. Both times on the door latch, I was alone. As far as the bilge plug goes, I've been placing it on the dash as advised by another forum member a while back. So far it works for me. Doug, doesn't your Flo-Jet have an in-line screen? Mine does but I can't remember if it came with the unit or it was ordered separately. I've noticed a fair amount of blasting sand inside the screen so it's doing what it was designed to do.
Poda, so that's how one prevents the high speed, loud grinding noise. Man that's a painful sound. So applying brakes while in the water is cool. Got it!

I don't have much occasion to go from lake to lake here in Florida, but at least there is no such law on the books that I have ever heard of. I know I more often than not have some kind of sea-weed hooked onto my undercarriage or bumper. Seldom, very much, but I have never seen anyone down here get out and check foir greenery before going elsewhere. Vic Nelson in Florida
